Welcome to Chive's Privacy Policy. Your privacy is critically important to us. This Privacy Policy document outlines the types of personal information collected and recorded by Chive and how we use it. We use your data only as described in this Privacy Policy. The data controller is Swatland AS, Norway, which operates Chive.

Information We Collect

We collect several different types of information for various purposes to provide and improve our service to you:

• Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name and email address.
• User Content: We store the sheet music files and related metadata you upload to our service.
• Usage Data: We may collect information about how you access and use our service, including your device information, IP address, browser type, and operating system.
• Cookies: We use cookies to track activity on our website and hold certain information to improve your experience.

AI Features

Chive uses Anthropic (maker of the Claude models) to power three optional features. We never send full PDF files or full page images to Anthropic — only the cropped evidence described below, which is chosen to carry titles and part names rather than whole pages of music, and only when you use the feature:

• Piece metadata suggestions: When you upload a piece, Chive may send compact text evidence (filename, page count, embedded PDF metadata, and short sampled text snippets) to suggest a title, composer, and arranger. If a scan has too little text to work with, Chive instead sends a cropped image of the first page's title block only.
• Parts-filing suggestions: When you add a combined parts PDF or ask Chive to split one, Chive sends a cropped image of the top 30% of each page — where titles and part names are printed — never full pages or whole files, so the part names can be read and the pages grouped into parts.
• AI library search ("Ask my library"): When you use natural-language search, the text of your typed query is sent to Anthropic to translate it into a structured search filter. No score content or file contents are sent for this feature.

How We Use Your Information

Chive uses the collected data for various purposes, including:

• To provide and maintain our service
• To notify you about changes to our service
• To provide customer support
• To provide analysis or valuable information to improve the service
• To monitor the usage of our service
• To detect, prevent, and address technical issues

Data Security

The security of your data is important to us but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. Your account is protected by a password for your privacy and security. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential.

Third-Party Services

We use a small number of third-party processors to run Chive. Each has access to your personal information only as needed to perform its task on our behalf, and is obligated not to use it for any other purpose:

• Anthropic — processes the AI evidence described above for the AI features you use.
• Supabase — hosts our database, authentication, and file storage.
• Fly.io — hosts our application servers.
• Stripe — processes payments for paid plans. Chive does not see or store your full card details.
• Resend — sends transactional email on our behalf, including ensemble invitations and account authentication email.
• Sentry — receives a report when something in Chive fails: what went wrong, the page it happened on, your browser, and your account's internal id. Reports never include your files, your email address, your IP address or where you are, and are stored in the EU.

Your Data Rights

As a user of our service, you have certain rights regarding your personal data:

• Access: You have the right to access your personal data stored in our systems.
• Correction: You have the right to have inaccurate personal data rectified or completed if it is incomplete.
• Erasure: You have the right to request the deletion of your personal data under certain conditions.
• Restriction: You have the right to request the restriction of processing of your personal data under certain conditions.
• Data Portability: You can download your whole library yourself: from your profile page for your personal library, or from an ensemble's settings page if you are its owner or admin. The zip holds your files and a machine-readable description of them. For any other personal data, email help@chivescore.com and we will provide it in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format on request.

Children's Privacy

Our service does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we can take necessary actions.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
